GFWI Trip to Chavenage House, October 2025
There were 90+ WI members on a sunny Autumn day. We assembled in the hall before being ushered into the ballroom. We sat at round tables of ten and were given a brief history and an amusing introductory talk by Caroline Lowsley-Williams. Chavenage House has been and still is used for films and the TV series Poldark.
Our group consisted of 3 tables of ladies who were taken around by George Lowsley-Williams. We started our tour in Cromwell’s room, which had tapestry covered walls dating from 1668. George was an excellent guide and gave us lots of information in a very entertaining manner. After the tour we returned to the ballroom, where we had a cream tea before departing on our homeward journeys.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining visit and we highly recommend it for when the house reopens again.
